How Long Is the NZeTA Valid?
The NZeTA can typically remain valid for two years for travellers.
During that period, it may allow multiple trips to New Zealand.
But this is one of the places where travelers can easily misunderstand the rules.
A two-year NZeTA does not mean you are allowed to live continuously in New Zealand for two years.
The NZeTA’s validity period and the amount of time you are allowed to stay on each visit are two completely different things.
For most eligible visa-waiver visitors, including Americans:
The NZeTA usually can be valid for up to 2 years.
Each visit can generally be up to 3 months.
Total time in New Zealand is generally limited to 6 months in any 12-month period under the visa-waiver arrangement.
That distinction is worth understanding before you start planning multiple trips.
The NZeTA can generally remain valid for two years for travellers.

Can a U.S. Citizen Stay in New Zealand for Six Months?
Not continuously through the standard visa-waiver arrangement.
For a typical U.S. citizen travelling under the visa-waiver system, the usual stay is:
Up to three months at a time.
However, the rules also allow a maximum of six months in any 12-month period.
That does not mean you should assume you can simply arrive for three months, briefly leave, and automatically return for another three months.
Your travel history, immigration status and purpose of travel can matter.
So, If you are planning to spend more than three months in New Zealand, you should explore the appropriate visa rather than relying on repeated short stays as a long-term strategy.
