9. Be Careful With “Fully Funded Scholarship” Claims
This deserves attention because international students are frequently targeted by misleading scholarship advertisements.
A website may advertise:
“Canada Fully Funded Scholarship — Apply Now!”
But when you investigate, you may discover that the scholarship:
1. Is only available to Canadian citizens
2. Covers tuition but not living expenses
3. Requires you to already be enrolled
4. Is only available for a particular field
5. Has already closed
6. Is offered by a private organization with unclear credibility
So, Start with official university and government sources.
EduCanada maintains information for international scholarship applicants, while Canada.ca provides official information about studying in Canada and study-permit requirements.
And remember:
Receiving a scholarship does not automatically give you permission to study in Canada.
You still need to meet Canada’s immigration requirements.
IRCC says international students applying for a study permit must, among other requirements, be enrolled at a designated learning institution and demonstrate sufficient financial resources for tuition, living expenses and transportation.
