5. Write a Personal Statement That Sounds Like You
This may be the most important part of your application.
Don’t write what you think a scholarship committee wants to hear.
Tell them why you are applying.
A useful personal statement can answer four questions:
1. Where are you coming from?
Briefly explain your academic or professional background.
2. What do you want to study?
Be specific about the program and area of interest.
3. Why Canada and this institution?
Explain what makes the program relevant to your goals.
4. What will you do with the opportunity?
This is where you show the bigger picture.
Maybe you want to return home and work in healthcare.
Maybe you want to develop technology for small businesses.
Maybe your goal is to conduct research in agriculture, climate science or public policy.
Whatever the goal is, explain it clearly.
