Government scholarships receive a lot of attention online, but university funding can be just as important.
UBC, for example, maintains a database of awards and funding opportunities open to domestic and international graduate students. It also offers international tuition awards for eligible research-oriented master’s and doctoral students.
Its current international graduate funding information also lists a minimum funding guarantee of CAD $40,000 per year for the first four years for new PhD students under its stated eligibility conditions.
That doesn’t mean every Canadian university offers the same package.
It shows why you should research the specific department and program, not just the country.
A university may have:
* Entrance scholarships
* Faculty awards
* Research grants
* Departmental awards
* Assistantships
* Tuition support
Some awards are automatic once you apply for admission.
