What Should You Check Before Applying?
Before you pay an application fee, create a simple checklist:
1. Is the institution a DLI?
2. Is the specific program PGWP eligible?
3. Does your academic background meet the admission requirements?
4. What is the total tuition?
5. What will living expenses look like in that city?
6. What are the intake dates and deadlines?
7. What language test does the school require?
8. Can you realistically demonstrate the funds required for your study-permit application?
That last part matters.
Getting admission is only one step.
You still need to satisfy Canada’s study-permit requirements.
So, Don’t Choose a PGD Just Because Someone Says It is an Easy Route to Canada
This is probably the biggest lesson I do give anyone considering a Canadian PGD.
Don’t choose a program simply because someone online says:
“This college gives admission quickly.”
Or:
“Do this diploma and you will definitely get a work permit.”
Do know that Canadian immigration rules have changed, and PGWP eligibility is not something you should guess about.
The government specifically advises students to check whether their chosen DLI offers PGWP-eligible programs.
Instead, choose a program that makes sense for your education, career plans and finances.
