What About H-1B?
This is where many people get confused.
You might hear someone say:
“I’m going to America through H-1B and then get a green card.”
That’s not quite how it works.
An H-1B is a temporary, nonimmigrant work visa/status. It is not itself a green card category.
However, an H-1B worker may potentially pursue an employment based permanent residence process if they qualify and an appropriate employer sponsored or other immigrant pathway is available.
Other temporary work classifications can similarly interact with long-term immigration planning.
So don’t confuse:
Temporary work authorization
with:
Permanent residence.
They are related, but they are not the same thing.
