7. EB-5: The Investor Route
Let’s talk about the route that works very differently from the others.
EB-5 is an immigrant investor category.
Instead of qualifying primarily through your professional achievements or an employer-sponsored job, EB-5 is based on qualifying investment and job creation requirements.
The State Department identifies EB-5 as the Employment Fifth Preference Employment Creation/Investors category.
This is obviously not the route for the average international worker who simply wants a U.S. job.
But for someone with substantial investment capital, it can be an entirely different pathway to consider.
The important distinction..?
EB-5 is not:
“I have money, therefore I automatically get a green card.”
There are specific legal requirements surrounding the investment, the qualifying enterprise, job creation and other conditions.
And the rules and investment thresholds can change, so anyone seriously considering EB-5 should check the current USCIS requirements rather than relying on an old social-media post.
